The Beyond / Hello medical marijuana dispensary at 3812 Easton-Nazareth Highway (Route 248) has secured approval to double in size.
The Lower Nazareth Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday approved a conditional use for the expansion of its strip mall location into an adjoining store space occupied by Saladworks.
Wednesday’s decision was the final township approval needed for the proposal, said Lori Seese, township planning and zoning administrator. Lower Nazareth’s zoning hearing board and planning commission previously signed off on the expansion, which was presented to the supervisors Jan. 26.
Beyond / Hello is operated by Franklin Bioscience-NE LLC. Neither the company nor Saladworks has commented on a timeline for the changes at the mall.
Justin Carey, vice president of real estate for Franklin Bioscience-NE, told the board of supervisors last month the expansion is designed to accommodate more point-of-sale systems and a larger vault for storing products. The goal is to improve wait times and efficiency for transactions, he said.
The plan is for the store to remain open during construction, Carey said. The location opened last June in what had been a Dan’s Camera City.
Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana dispensaries are open only to patients with approved conditions who obtain a card from the state Department of Health, and to caregivers who obtain credentials to pick up products for designated patients.
Lehigh and Northampton counties are home to nine state-approved medical marijuana dispensaries.
Beyond / Hello’s expansion comes amid changes in the state’s program: The health department earlier this month announced the recall of hundreds of vaporized marijuana products, saying they were made with additives not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
