A fire erupted Tuesday in a doublewide mobile home in Sage where a possible marijuana grow was being maintained, causing extensive damage and threatening a neighboring property before firefighters contained the flames.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 5:10 p.m. near the intersection of Colt and Barranca roads, just southeast of Diamond Valley Lake, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine and water tender crews were sent to the location and encountered flames throughout the doublewide trailer, which was unoccupied.
A neighboring property was exposed to the fire, but crews established a defensive perimeter, preventing the flames from spreading.
Officials at the scene said it appeared that the mobile home was being used as a grow house to illegally cultivate cannabis. Sheriff’s deputies were requested to investigate.
By 5:50 p.m., the fire was fully contained, but crews were expected to remain at the location until about 8 p.m., mopping up.
There was no immediate word regarding what might have triggered the blaze.
