According to the police, search operations were carried out at Handi village on Thursday after it came to light that large-scale marijuana farming was being done in the village. The police zeroed in on the farm of Vikram Machhar where marijuana plants were planted among cotton cultivation. Similar cultivation was being done in the nearby farms owned by Himmat Machhar and Sarthan Machhar.
The police began testing the plants and weighing them on Thursday and the process ended on Friday morning. A total of 539.4kg cannabis plants were grown in the farm of Vikram, 1,890.5kg in the farm of Himmat and 315.5kg in the farm of Sarthan.
In all, 2,318 plants weighing 2,745.4kg were found during the raids by the police. The stash is valued at over Rs 2.74crore. While Vikram was arrested by the police, Himmat and Sarthan managed to escape.
