A medical marijuana dispensary is coming to Southwest Greensburg.
Maitri Medicinals will open in a strip mall located at 1075 S. Main St., near the intersection of Route 30 and Route 119. A ribbon cutting is planned Monday.
This will be the third medical marijuana dispensary opened by Maitri Medicinals, joining its other locations in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood and Uniontown, Fayette County.
“We are proud to further our commitment to serving cannabis patients throughout the state with the opening of our newest dispensary,” said CEO Jimil Wilson. “The timing could not be better, as Maitri celebrates three years of providing the Pennsylvania medical cannabis community with a diverse selection of high-quality medical cannabis.”
As with the other locations, the Southwest Greensburg facility will offer an online reservation system or the ability to place in-person orders. The Southwest Greensburg location is expected to be smaller than the other two dispensaries. The facility will offer curbside pickup, Wilson said.
“It will, I believe, help serve the patients more efficiently, and patients will be able to get in and out more quickly than in some of the other locations,” Wilson said.
Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana industry has surged since 2018, when products first became available for patients at dispensaries across the state. In Pennsylvania, residents with a serious medical condition as certified by an approved physician can register for a medical marijuana identification card that can be used to purchase medical marijuana at dispensaries.
By August, the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Advisory Board reported $3.4 billion in sales with more than 633,000 registered patients and caregivers.
There are several medical marijuana dispensaries across Western Pennsylvania. In Westmoreland County, Maitri will join Beyond/Hello in Irwin, Delta 9 PA in Greensburg, The Rise dispensary in Unity and the Sunnyside Medical Cannabis Dispensary in New Kensington.
According to Wilson, Maitri officials had to work with state and local officials to get approvals to open the dispensary. The state will come in for a final review of the facility before it opens to ensure Maitri is meeting requirements in regard to security and other regulations. Southwest Greensburg officials did not respond for comment.
The new dispensary is expected to create about 20 jobs.
“We like to hire locally,” Wilson said. “If you look at all of our other dispensaries, we hire folks from the local community, which has been very beneficial for us in the past.”
