Harrisburg — The Legislature approved a series of amendments to Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act on Monday with the aim of perpetuating some of the temporary changes made due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The House of Representatives agreed with the bill in favor of 164 to 38, allowing one month’s supply to three months’ supply to be distributed at once. Patients can continue to receive their medication outside the pharmacy rather than inside the building.
Barry Chicochoppo, head of communications for the State Health Department, said the department was concerned about legislative provisions that threatened product quality and patient safety.
“We look forward to working with Congress to resolve these concerns for the best interests of the Pennsylvania,” said Ciccocioppo.
The law also allows caregivers to provide assistance to more than five patients at a time, mitigating the process of removing contaminants prior to final testing.
Producers and processors are allowed to use pesticides according to standards developed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
This allows the facility to use security monitoring powered by motion detectors instead of keeping the system up and running all the time.
Most Democrats supported the bill, but about one-third of the House Republicans opposed it. It was sent to the State Senate.
