Shao Huang was found dead off of Zane Grey Drive on Aug. 27, 2020 inside a makeshift living area constructed with two by fours and plywood, said Siskiyou County Undersheriff James Randall in March. At the time of the murder, then-undersheriff Karl Houtman said Huang was part of the illegal growing operation but the land he was occupying wasn’t his.
And although detectives don’t believe the homicides are related, a second person was murdered in approximately the same area a few months after Huang died.
On Nov. 14, 2020, Rosendo Ortiz Arroyo, age 23 of Anaheim, was found dead inside an addition built off a travel trailer. Another man with gunshot wounds was found by responding officers on the property along the driveway, and a third victim ran from the area and was located nearby after calling 911, said Randall.
Both gunshot victims recovered and were later released from the hospital.
In March, Randall said detectives had some “promising leads” on the two homicides, but weren’t ready to release details at the time.
Those with information about either of the homicides should call the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office at 530-841-2900.
