It’s not clear how many plants were recovered.
Snowboarding and cannabis have a long history. Canadian Ross Rebagliati famously won the first-ever Olympic gold medal in snowboarding at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, only to have it temporarily revoked after a positive cannabis test.
Rebagliati, who now runs cannabis accessory brand Ross’ Gold, was one of the first athletes to speak out on Sha’Carri Richardson’s behalf after the sprinter was suspended from the 2020 Toyko Olympics due to a positive cannabis test.
“I’m sad about it. I’m sorry to hear that this is still an issue,” Rebagliati said. “I know in Rio (Olympics), they decided not to test for cannabis and I thought we were past this. I would argue that cannabis is a bigger part of our culture than it was 23 years ago,” he added.
Snowboarding legend Greta Gaines previously told The GrowthOp that cannabis allowed her to focus on the present and not worry about getting injured while competing.
“In order to keep your head in extreme sports, you can’t think that you might get hurt, and cannabis keeps me in the moment, which I need in order to do my job well,” she said.
